Chard 1st XI 11, Taunton Vale C 0

CHARD got the second half of their season off to a flying start with a comprehensive victory over Taunton Vale C on Saturday.

Chard dominated from the beginning with Mike Wakely opening the scoring.

A good ball from Adam Veitch found him in the D and he turned and fired in on his reverse.

Chard scored two more in quick succession - a good strike from Ben Larcombe and a mazy run from Veitch.

They then put their short corner routines to good use with Harry Felgate putting two great deflections in and Larcombe adding another to his tally.

Chard came back out for the second half and continued with the onslaught.

Wakely added three more, putting pressure on the Vale defence and finishing with precision.

Veitch added another and Sheahan junior finished off the afternoon with a tap-in at the back post.

Chard will look to continue on with their winning ways next week when they face ECV Hornets A in Exeter.

Dart A 3, Chard A 3

CHARD missed out on doing the double over Dart, conceding two goals in the last five minutes and having to settle for a share of the spoils, after appearing to have the game in the bag.

It was Dart who started the match most positively but Chard took the lead with their first meaningful attack, Trevor Goss finding James Spurdle down the right wing, the latter crossing to Justin Green whose shot was deflected and trickled over the line.

Dart broke fast and equalised then the tide of the first half turned and Chard had to fight hard not to concede again.

It was through a break away of their own that the lead was restored five minutes before half-time, Harvey Dening lashing home after a fine run.

When Dening supplied another cross from the backline on the right from which Nick Parkinson put Chard 3-1 up ten minutes into the second half, and Dart missed a penalty flick, things were looking good for the win.

In the final quarter hour, both sides began to tire but when Dart scored from a penalty corner with five minutes to go, they suddenly found some extra energy and belief.

A questionable award of another penalty corner with a minute remaining led to the equaliser, and the final whistle blew as Chard restarted.
