BERTIE Squire grabbed a brace as Chard produced one of their best performances of the season with a 6-1 home defeat of East Devon B in South East 1 of the Davis Wood league.

Chard started the game very well, passing the ball around sharply and playing at a fast tempo.

They created a few chances in the first ten minutes before taking the lead through a short corner strike from Matt Sheahan which rebounding off a defender’s foot and into the corner.

The next goal came from Fraser Lewis who got a vital touch from a Gary Wheaton cross.

Chard kept up their tempo and soon found another goal with a good ball through from Liam Murphy to Bertie Squire who took a great first touch and fired it in under the advancing keeper.

East Devon then pulled a goal back with a hard ball into the D taking a deflection and leaving Richard Green no chance.

Chard’s persistence paid off with Murphy dispossessing an East Devon defender in their own 25 and charging into the D to put it under the keeper.

In the second half Chard added another two to their tally, the first coming from Squire with a great run into the D and a fine shot in the bottom corner.

East Devon almost pulled back another from a short corner however Richard Green was in a determined mood and pulled off some fine reflex saves to deny them.

Max Beale finished it off with a powerful reverse stick shot leaving the keeper no chance.

Chard’s passing really shone while there was good play at the back from Jonny Crease, Simon Green and Danny Grabham who all stayed calm on the ball and distributed the ball well.
