AFTER Ilminster’s recent loss to North Petherton in the Somerset and Devon mixed league, the return match looked just as difficult, even with home advantage.

As it turned out the final result was a very unusual one.

After a match in which the lead changed hands a number of times, Ilminster’s first rink to finish ended in tie when the home team picked up one shot to end 18-18.

The other rink went into the last end two shots down but with his last wood Ilminster’s skip Roger Lench picked up the shots needed to also tie his rink.

The final result was 36-36 so the points were shared.

Scores: Des Maull, Jill Parker, John Osborne and Dave Pugh 18, E Milton 18; Gerry Morris, Ann Morris, Ken Parker and Roger Lench 18, P Howard 18.

AT Chard BC the first of four games postponed earlier in the season in the Milford and Dormor took place this week.

Magpies took on Royals and lost 20-7.

This was a game of two halves. The lead changed hands several times in the first eight ends which included a tied end and at this point the score was 7-7.

Then the wheels came off for Magpies and the bowls just weren’t on their side.

Royals took all the remaining ends and romped home.

There are two games being played this week, with the final game the following week.

The table positions are not going to change whatever the remaining results.

Chard A played at Seaton Cliff C in the East Devon League and suffered another defeat. Seaton took the match by 6-2 and by 69-46.
