CHARD A ended the season second from bottom and facing possible relegation despite ending the season with vistory at home to champions Belvedere 2nds.

Belvedere won the toss and batted first. Richard Scott picked up two wickets in his opening spell for Chard as Belvedere made slow progress in the early stages.

None of their batsmen got going as Steve Dening bowled a miserly spell of 1-19 from his 12 overs.

Dave Crew picked up 4-44 to remove the middle order and Ian Haste finished off the tail with 2-6.

Scott took the final wicket to return figures of 3-13 from 7.1 overs as Belvedere were dismissed for 104 in the 40th over.

Chard opened with 15-year-olds Jake Hayes and Marcus Veitch and the pair put on 67 for the first wicket before Veitch was caught for 32.

Hayes followed soon after for 29 as Chard lost three wickets for seven runs. John Hendy pushed the score along with his usual aggressive innings, before being caught for 16 with only four runs needed for victory.

It was left to Ross Barrett (12 not out) and Steve Dening to see Chard through to victory by six wickets and 35 points.

However, with all the other results going against them, Chard find themselves finishing second from bottom and facing possible relegation.
