Somerset County League, Premier Division: Stockwood Wanderers 1-1 Chard Town
Chard Town maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw at Stockwood Wanderers on Saturday (September 5).
It was another tough game for the first team who travelled to Stockwood Wanderers.
With a full squad to pick 11 from and the luxury of five on the bench, confidence was high.
The game kicked off in late summer sunshine, and, from the off, Chard went on to the attack and continued right up to half time.
Harry Crittenden had several headed chances.
Tom Boyland and Conor Fielder got behind the defence numerous times but the Stockwood Wanderers defenders stayed firm.
Ollie Crittenden probably had the best chance of the half, but the defender got to the ball first.
0-0 at half time and the home team were looking forward to the break.
Second half started and again Chard were creating the most chances without reward.
On 50 minutes, Harry Crittenden created plenty of space in the box and put the ball across the keeper and into the goal.
As the ball bounced back out it was presumed to have hit the post.
In reality it had hit the framework of the goal.
Conor Fielder, Ollie Crittenden and Tom Boyland were replaced by Luca Manley, Ryan Mason and Jacob Manley on the hour mark.
Not long after that, Stockwood Wanderers had a rare attack on goal and bizarrely put the ball in the back of the net.
This galvanised the Chard players and 10 minutes later a long throw from Drew Sloan was expertly volleyed into the net by Jake Davey, well deserved.
In the closing minutes Owen Abbott and Tom Redwood came onto the field.
For the last 15 minutes, it was Chard that looked likely to get the winner but time ran out and they were happy with a point and six games unbeaten.
