Chard Town 3-1 Stockwood Green - unbeaten run continues

After four games Chard Town were unbeaten, winning two and drawing two.

Stockwood Green, the visitors on Saturday (August 29), had won four, drawn one and lost one.

This game was entertaining.

The game started and Chard played up the slope.

From the off, Chard were the ones on the front foot.

From a corner taken by Drew Sloan, Tom Hallett put the ball into the back of the net after four minutes.

Stockwood Green tried to get into the game but Chard passed the ball all over the pitch with ease.

On 36 minutes, Conor Fielder had a great chance to get the second goal from a free kick, despite beating the keeper the ball hit the post.

Five minutes later, he had another great chance, one on one with the keeper to beat, he blazed the ball wide.

The score remained 1-0 at half time.

The second half started and again Chard piled on the pressure with Ollie Crittenden creating havoc for the defenders.

From another corner by Drew Sloan, the captain Jake Dennis put the ball in the back of the net with a bullet header.

Stockwood Green responded but still didn't create an effort on goal.

A great ball over the top on 53 minutes for Ollie Crittenden was finished with a quality pass into the far corner of the goal.

Chard eased off and a rare attack from Stockwood Green seemed to be easily dealt with by Jason Contreras, but with a greasy surface he lost his footing and the ball went past him and the attacker had an open net to score a goal.

This gave the visitors more belief and for a while they created some chances, but the Chard defence stayed firm.

Chard Town stood firm and won 3-1.

“Quick and skilful entertaining football, which is great to watch. A testament of the development of the youth structure at the football club and hard work from the managers past and current.”
