A BOWLING club has announced a new chairperson and thanked a committee member who retired after 14 years after its recent annual general meeting.

Chard Bowling Club said Mrs Linda Thomas is the new chairperson and added that Janet Bodily, who was at the club for more than 20 years, retired.

Janet was the club fixture secretary for 14 years.

The committee and the members would like to thank Janet for her dedication and commitment to the club.

Following the recent AGM, the club has also appointed several new committee members.

The Green may have closed at the end of September, but for the members of Chard Bowling Club, the winter season continues.

In the Short Mat Hall, the competition continues to be fiercely contested.

The regular weekly “Brolly Drive” is very popular, as is the local Milford and Dormer League.

At the end of October, a party of players went to Torquay to try their hand at Indoor “long mat” bowling.

This was a new venture and was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.

Chard Bowling Club offers a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and invites bowlers of all ages and experience (or none) to enjoy our facilities.

There are qualified coaches available to help with instruction and training.

Chard & Ilminster News:

Bowls is a sport for everyone and will help improve fitness levels and wellbeing. There is a licensed bar at the club and a regular programme of social events is also held during the year.

These include coffee mornings and fish and chip evenings with quizzes.

The club has a defibrillator on site, which was installed following a massive fundraising campaign.

This is located within the club grounds and is available for anybody in the vicinity who may need it urgently.
