Challenge Cup Round One: South Petherton 4-2 Chard United

IT took a strong performance from South Petherton to beat Chard United 4-2 in the Challenge Cup to go through to the next round at the weekend.

The match started off fairly even as both sides created and defended chances, but a scramble on the Petherton goal line was what broke the deadlock and Chard went 0-1 up.

Mere minutes later Josh Bellew headed home to equalise before half time.

In the second half there were plenty of goals as it became an end-to-end match, first off Chard once again went ahead 1-2.

Then Bobby Jackson looped a ball into the box which evaded everyone and nestled into the back of the goal for 2-2.

South Petherton then made some effective substitutions, with two of the subs going on to score.

Danny Rendell found himself in the oppositions box and drove a low shot which hit the post and ricocheted into the net to make it 3-2 to South Petherton.

But the goal of the day came from Trevor Dube who rolled the ball through the defenders legs on the edge of the box before shooting into the top corner for 4-2.
