Frome CC - 1st XI 162 / 6 (40.0) def. Chard CC - 1st XI 86 / All out (21.3)

CHARD Cricket Club's WEPL Somerset title hopes took a hit at the weekend as they were beaten away at Frome.

In the match that was affected by a short rain delay, Chard lost by 47 runs, earning three points for the league table.

It leaves them in second place, but further adrift from league leaders Wellington and whilst the deficit is not mathematically impossible to chase, it will be a tough ask from now.

Chard won the toss and elected to field first in this match and the Frome side would go on to set a target of 162 from 40 overs.

Luke Padgett scored 73 runs for the home side while Malcolm Cloete took three wickets for 26 runs to finish with the best bowling figures.

In reply, Chard were given a revised target of 134 from 25.0 overs but they were unable to chase that down as they were all out for 86.

Next up for Chard is a home match against Taunton St Andrews CC- 2nd XI on Saturday, August 19.
