Chard 135-4 defeat Wembdon 134 all out

CHARD managed to get a 40 overs a side game against Wembdon in what seemed wintery conditions.

Winning the toss Chard put Wembdon into bat, and struck early thanks to some quality new ball bowling from the Cloete and Evans partnership, leaving the visitors 32-3.

Dalwood came into the attack and took out the opposition skipper Brockwell and everything seemed in control for Chard.

Overseas pro Singappuli was the main stumbling block for Chard, going after the spin of Dalwood and Scott working his way upto 72, he seemed in completely control until a lapse in concentration saw him miss time a sweep to Mawdsley off the bowling pf Josh Short to take away any hopes of Wembdon posting a big score.

On debut Lewis Griffiths came into the attack and bowled superbly to wrap up the Wembdon lower order and claim brilliant figures of 4 wickets for 6 runs off 3 overs.

In reply Chard got off to a shaky start by losing Glentworth. Mawdsley’s got Chard up and running punishing anything loose on his way to 22, before running passed one and being stumped.

R.Scott was the next to go with the score on 42-3. Cloete and Dening looked in complete control, working the singles and pouncing on anything over pitched.

Some lusty blows from Cloete got Chard within touching distance before losing his wicket to James baker as he was caught on the boundary for 44.

Dening worked his way to 28, and a brief but entertaining innings from Short saw the game wrapped up quickly as Chard take the win and 19 points.

Player of the day has to be young Lewis Griffiths who came into the side and picked up 4 wickets on his debut.
