Ilton CC 1st XI 204 / 7 (38.0) def. Crewkerne CC 1st XI 201 / 7 (40.0)

ILTON Cricket Club won the local derby over Crewkerne at the weekend by a margin of three wickets.

The result sees Ilton climb to sixth place in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket Leagues while Crewkerne stay stuck to the bottom of the table.

After winning the toss, Ilton elected to field first and made the right call come close of play.

Crewkerne's opening batters made a strong start, in particular Christopher Gould was amongst the runs as he scored 79.

Despite his efforts, wickets fell cheaply around him, but strong efforts from Leo James (26) and George Hallett (23) helped moved the innings along.

A late surge spearheaded by Ethan Gould (25 not out) took the target to 201 for 7 after 40 overs.

Damian Price had the best bowling figures for Ilton taking three wickets for 15 runs in his eight overs.

In reply, Ilton chased down the total in the 38th over as Price top scored with 72 runs.

Andrew Mason (30), Rich Gower (31) and Craig Baxendale (40 not out) helped to get their side over the line as well.

All in all a solid win for Ilton who for now can claim bragging rights in this local battle.
