MOST cricket clubs in South Somerset were unable to play their fixtures at the weekend due to the rain.

Aside from Chard CC in the WEPL Somerset and Ilminster Sexond XI in Division One of the Somerset Cricket Leagues, there was very limited action.

In the WEPL Premier Two Bristol/Somerset division, Ilminster CC First XI were able to play just one ball before the rain forced play to stop.

Sam Spurway top scored in that match, scoring one run in the one delivery that was played.

Both Ilminster CC and Midsomer Norton CC were awarded six points for the league table which means Ilminster stay in seventh place on the table. Midsomer Norton remain in sixth place.

Ilminster Sexond XI drew their match with North Newton CC as it too was affected by rain.

After winning the toss, North Newton chose to field first and the Ilminster batters went on to set the target at 161 when they were all out in the 33rd over.

Opener Michael McNee top scored with an impressive 67 runs off 69 balls. He scored 11 fours in the knock as well.

Cameron Street was in good form with the ball in hand for North Newton taking 4 wickets for 43 runs lost in his nine over spell.

In reply, North Newton got to 8 for 148 when and the revised target of 162 from 38.0 overs was not met. However it was enough to earn a draw, perhaps a fair result.

Adam Cox was Ilminster's best bowler taking three wickets for 18 runs in his eight over spell.

It leaves Ilminster in fourth place in Division One of the Somerset Cricket leagues.

Elsewhere, in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket Leagues, Ilton CC, Crewkerne CC, Broadway & Horton CC all saw their matches end in a draw due to rain.

Chard CC Second XI also had their game affected by rain to wrap up a frustrating weekend for teams in South Somerset.

Looking forward, Ilminster CC return to WEPL Premier Two action at the weekend when they take on Bishopton away from home.

Ilminster Seconds host Uphill Castle on Saturday in Division One of the Somerset Cricket Leagues.

Chard Cricket Club take on North Perrott at home in the WEPL Somerset, while Chard Seconds face Minehead Seconds away from home.

In Division Two of the Somerset Cricket Leagues, Broadway & Horton take on Cranmore at home.

While Ilton CC host Crewkerne CC in what is an exciting local derby between the two sides at the bottom of the table.
