Wellington CC 1st XI 151 / 6 (28.3) Revised Target 151 from 50.0 overs def. Chard CC 1st XI 133 / 8 (35)

CHARD Cricket Club suffered a four wicket defeat at the weekend away from home against Wellington.

The top of the table clash left Wellington in top spot with Chard in second place.

After winning the toss, Wellington chose to field first. Rain stopped play in Chard's 35th over when they were at 133 for 8.

Mawdsley and Glentworth gave Chard a solid start leaving the visitors 67/0 off 15 when they were dragged off for rain.

After watching heavy rain for a hour the Chard innings was reduced to 35 overs. From there Chard struggled to get any momentum thanks to some good bowling from the Wellington spinners.

Arron Campbell took three wickets for Wellington to finish with the best bowling figures.

Rob Moysey took two wickets and Jack Beal and Sandaken Pathirana took one a piece.

A few starts but ultimately Chard were crept upto 133/8 from 35 with Duckworth Lewis adding 17 runs leaving Wellington 151 to win.

A good start from Chard with both Cloete and R. Scott putting early pressure onto Wellington with tidy lines and assistance from the pitch.

Cloete picked up 3 wickets quickly leaving the hosts 10/3 bringing Wellington overseas into the fold.

Pathirana proved the difference in the game hitting 73 off 53 balls and getting Wellington upto the 100 mark.

Cloete never stopped battling, first removing Pathirana, then bowling both Hurry and Desave to complete the hat-trick and finish with figures 6 wickets for 22 runs.

Campbell also contributed with the runs for Wellington as he scored 38 runs in what was a good knock.

The remainder of the runs were shared around the batting lineup, but Pathirana really stole the show with his efforts in the match.

Ultimately Chard would end with a loss with Wellington taking 18 points and Chard 6.

Chard will look to bounce back and put on a performance with a home fixture against North Perrott on Saturday.

This is also the cricket club's annual Sponsors Day so a large crowd is expected.

Elsewhere both Chard's Second XI and Third XI had their matches cancelled at the weekend.
