ILMINSTER Town Ladies are seeking to keep their Vitality Women’s FA Cup run going, as they take on Poole Town Ladies this coming Sunday.

The Blues reached the second round qualifying stage of the competition thanks to a 2-1 victory away to Callington Town last weekend.

Gabi Alphous put the hosts ahead, but Ilminster had the chance to level when Harrie Kelly was bundled over by the home goalkeeper.

Abbie Carslake stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty past the goalkeeper for 1-1.

Kelly then had a goal ruled out for offside, but she played a key role in the Blues’ second goal after the half-time interval.

Dana Andrews won the ball and set her side on the attack, and Kelly’s square ball into the box was smashed home by Colette Martin.

The hosts pressed for an equaliser, but Blues keeper Charlotte Johnson made a series of outstanding saves and the defence - including player of the match Hannah Billing - stood firm.

Now Ilminster welcome Poole Town to the Archie Gooch Pavilion for a second round qualifying tie this Sunday (2pm).

Poole play in Division 1 South West of the FA Women's National League - one level above Ilminster in the English women's football pyramid.
