SOMERSET hockey clubs' men's teams now know which division they will be playing in next season, after the Verde Recreo League released its team placements for 2020/21.

Taunton Vale men's 1st XI remain in the Premiership, following their third-placed finish in 2019/20, while Taunton Vale A stay in Conference South.

Bridgwater and Taunton Vale B will again play in Central 1, where they are joined by Minehead - who won promotion from Central 2 last season.

Taunton Civil Service have been promoted from Southern 2 to Southern 1, while Bridgwater A move up to Central 2 (from West Central 1) and Chard to Southern 2 (from South East 1).

Promoted sides Chard A and Taunton Vale D join Minehead A and Taunton Vale C in South East 1.

Bridgwater B and Bridgwater C are both in West Central 2 for next season, with Chard B, Minehead B, Taunton Civil Service A and Taunton Vale E in South East 2.

Season dates are still to be confirmed, as it is not yet known when hockey will be allowed to return in England, owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Verde Recreo League tweeted: "It is the committee's intention that we run a full league season, however we have to be guided by government and governing body advice.

"It is for this reason we are delaying announcing season dates until most likely late June.

"At this point we will also publish a series of back-up plans and dates upon which these plans will be invoked.

"Such options are intended to describe a way in which we hopefully can deliver a 'condensed' season if, for example, hockey is unable to begin until after Christmas."
