Uhlsport Somerset County League Premier Division

Chard Town 0, Nailsea United 3

It was back down to earth for the Robins on Wednesday evening after the previous week’s win against Westfield.

The hosts tore out of the blocks in the first few minutes with Liam Cleal and James Boyland linking well to create viable opportunities.

This continued throughout the first half with numerous corners awarded to the hosts.

Cleal put the ball in the net after some good football but the offside flag ruled it out before Ryan Parris was close with a header from a Cleal corner.

Chard couldn’t capitalise on their opportunities, however, and just three minutes into the second half the visitors went ahead when Adam Marsden raced through the defence to score an excellent goal.

Only 10 minutes later, a good move split the Robins’ defence and Nathan Shipway tapped the ball home to make it 2-0.

Chard threatened a couple of times but could not regain their early dominance.

Despite another Parris header wide of the post and a Boyland shot wide of the target, the rest of the game belonged to the visitors and they duly wrapped up the game on 85 minutes when Mark Iles put away a fine strike.

Chard: Owen Searle, Ben Mear, Ryan Mason, Dan O’Connor (Sam Spurway 72 mins), Conor Richardson, Ryan Parris, Billy Sheahan, Jake Board (Tom Hargreave 77 mins), Danny Green, James Boyland, Liam Cleal. Sub not used – Adam Cole.

The Robins are back in action on Saturday at home to Keynsham United Reserves, while Ilminster Town travel to leaders Shirehampton.

In Division 3, Combe St Nicholas travel to Ashcott.
