TODAY is Portman Cup Raceday at Taunton, where the seven racecard with a whopping prize fund of more than £104,000 gets going at 1.05pm.

With the weather forecast looking good, 74 runners declared and all the leading trainers represented Westcountry punters look to be set for another great afternoon of racing action.

The big race on the card is The Weatherby’s Portman Cup Steeple Chase (Class 2) over three miles, four and a half furlongs which has a massive prize pot of £50,000 on offer, and is due off at 2.50pm.

In this race Yala Enki trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Bryony Frost along with the Nicky Henderson horse Valtor under James Bowen are likely to attract attention.

However, last year’s winner Royal Vacation trained by Colin Tizzard and ridden by Jonjo O’Neil junior might well be worth an each way look.

Other horses worth keeping an eye out for during the afternoon are - Poucor and Karakoran in the 1.40, Top and Drop in the 3.55 and Jungle Prose in the last.

A courtesy coach service departs from Taunton Railway Station main entrance (platform 5) 90 minutes before the first race and returns from the course half an hour after the start of the last.
