FORMER Heathfield Community School and Bridgwater & Taunton College student Josh Gould has signed a new contract with Swansea City, which is set to keep him at the Championship club until 2022.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper, initially a keen rugby player at Heathfield, also has the option of a further 12-month extension.

Gould joined the Swans in August 2018, having previously played for Bridgwater Town, Cardiff Met and Taffs Well, and also captained Somerset at age group level.

This season has seen him make 14 appearances for the club’s Under-23 side.

He told the Swansea website: “It’s a great feeling. I’m really looking forward to the future and building on the last 18 months.

“It’s a big milestone for me and something I didn’t think was possible a few short years ago.

“Sometimes, it’s good to look back and see where you’ve come from, but you can’t stand still for too long.

“Since the new management staff have come in, I’ve done my best to impress them and I think they’ve taken a liking to me.

“I’ll keep my head down and keep working hard and see what happens over the next couple of years.”

THERE was more good news for another Bridgwater & Taunton College footballer, Callum Watts, this week.

The midfielder, who has represented Bridgwater Town and Taunton Town this season, will join the English Colleges men’s team on their tour to Italy in February.

This follows his selection for the English Colleges squad back in November, after impressing in the South West trial at SGS College - alongside five other BTC students - and then a final trial at Hartpury College.

Watts is another ex-Heathfield pupil, and is now studying a BTEC Level 3 in Sports Coaching at BTC.
