WELLINGTON Fox’s were the hosts on Sunday morning for the Under-10s Hockey Tournament which saw Chard enter one mixed team and had a very successful morning.

Chard won two matches, drew two and lost two, both of which were only by one goal.

Chard started with an even encounter with Yeovil & Sherborne and followed up with wins over Taunton Vale 2nds and Cheddar Valley, scoring three goals in the latter match.

Taunton Vale 1st were the next opposition and Chard were beaten 1-0 in a tight match.

Wellington Fox’s two sides were the last games and Chard started very well in first match, taking a 2-0 lead, but were unable to hold on and Wellington equalised in the final seconds.

The last game saw a 1-0 defeat.

Chard tackled well, passed well and took their opportunities in front of goal which has been a problem in the past.

Goal scorers were Thea Parsons (2), William Thompson (2), Tabitha Thompson and debutant Ethan Davis-Carrau.

Archie Parris, Luc Brown, Helen Eames and Harry Shepherd all had a good matches and Abi Mortimer made many good saves.

Thank you to the parents for their support and Tom Eames for the encouragement from the sideline.

Verde Recreo South East 2

Yeovil & Sherborne B 1, Chard A 3

THREE games for Chard 2nd XI, three wins and all by the same margin.

The only goal of a tight first half came a minute before the break, Rollo Squire cutting in from the right and sweeping a majestic reverse stick shot into net.

Five minutes into the second half, Squire turned provider when his long ball reached Harvey Dening, who steered the ball into the net.

Yeovil did get a goal back midway through the half but Chard turned up the pressure again, Dening sending a series of right wing crosses into the D with no-one being able to get on the end of them.

The pressure told when a shot from a penalty corner was blocked on the line by a Yeovil defender’s feet.

Dening despatched the resulting penalty flick to restore Chard’s two-goal cushion and they saw out the final minutes to run out comfortable winners.

Squad: N Gage, T Goss, R Millett, P Tratt, S Mahoney, J Goddard, T Eames (capt), M Wheaton, R Squire, G Eggle, H Dening, J Spurdle.

In the same division, Chard B lost 4-1 at home to Taunton Vale D.

Chard 1sts were beaten 2-1 at Isca D in South East 1, while Chard Ladies went down by the same scoreline at White Eagles in Sedgemoor 1.
