PETER Trego has been left out of the Somerset squad to face Surrey in Taunton this evening (Friday, 6.30pm).

Somerset have named a 13-man squad which does not include the veteran all-rounder or captain Lewis Gregory, who will miss at least the next two matches with a foot injury.

Jamie Overton, who took 4-24 in this fixture last season, returns to the squad after recovering from an ankle knock.

Eddie Byrom, who has been in fine form for the Second XI in T20s this week, would seem the natural replacement for Trego in the batting order - it would be the 22-year-old's T20 debut if he plays tonight.

Somerset, who will be captained by Tom Abell in Gregory's absence, are sitting second bottom of the South Group going into the match and are looking to end a three-match losing streak.

Surrey have also won just once so far but are boosted by the availability of England all-rounder Sam Curran, who joins his brother Tom in the visiting squad.

The visitors are without Jason Roy and Rory Burns, who are opening the batting for England in the first Ashes Test, but skipper Aaron Finch will be looking to continue his good record against Somerset.

The Australian currently has 181 runs in four innings against Somerset at an average of 60.33.

England World Cup winner Liam Plunkett misses out through injury.
