SOMERSET pair Eddie Byrom and George Bartlett staked their claims for spots in the Vitality Blast team with impressive performances for the Second XI this week.

Somerset took on Kent (Monday) and Surrey (Wednesday), playing both team twice in back-to-back matches.

Byrom blasted 91 from 58 balls, with nine fours and four sixes, during the second of two victories over Kent, with Bartlett making an unbeaten 41 from 33 balls in the first.

Against Surrey, Byrom needed just 26 balls to pass 50 and finished unbeaten on 69 from 38 balls to lead Somerset to a nine-wicket win in the first game of the day.

In the second, Bartlett was given an opportunity to impress at the top of the order and he took it, making 69 not out from 46 balls as Somerset eased to their second nine-wicket victory of the day.

It was not just the batsmen who impressed; Jack Brooks took 3-11 from four overs in the first game of the day against Surrey, while Ollie Sale claimed 4-13 from his four in the second.

Brooks played 10 of Yorkshire's 14 North Group matches last season but is yet to feature for Somerset in this year's tournament to date.

Somerset host Surrey on Friday night looking to end a run of three straight defeats in the competition.

The sold out clash gets underway at 6.30pm.
