Cricketer National Village Cup quarter-final
Sarisbury Athletic 234-7 beat North Perrott 184 by 50 runs
NORTH Perrott's National Village Cup adventure ended two games away from Lord's despite a brilliant century from George Retter on Sunday.
Perrott, boosted by a 50-plus strong travelling support, lost the toss and Sarisbury - near Southampton - opted to bat first.
Alfie Ogborne (1-24) struck early but Sam Floyd and Josh Hill rebuilt.
Hill went on to bring up his century from 82 balls before being run out off his 83rd, while Matthew Journeaux's 47 pushed the home side up to 234-7.
Lorraine Szczepanski (1-24 off eight) was the pick of the Perrott attack.
In reply, openers Retter and Gordon Whorlow added 36 before the latter was clean bowled for 18.
Perrott were soon on the back foot at 76-4 but Retter was holding the innings together.
The opener struck eight fours and four sixes and reached three figures from 90 balls but his departure, for exactly 100, left the visitors on 151-7.
Despite a cameo 17 from Stacy Hawes at number 10, Perrott were bowled out 50 runs short to leave their Lord's dreams over for another year.
Their chances of cup glory are not over for the season, however - Perrott take on Frome in the SCB Major Cup final on Sunday, August 4.
