Weston-super-Mare 111-2 beat Ilminster 109 by 8 wkts

PETER Trego made the most of conditions tailor-made for his bowling to condemn Ilminster to defeat on Saturday.

After a damp day on Friday, Ilminster turned up to an overcast ground knowing the toss would be key - and, unfortunately, the coin didn’t come down on their side.

Weston chose to bowl, gave the new ball to Trego and watched the Somerset all-rounder remove both openers to leave Ilminster 17-2.

Ilminster’s middle order rebuilt, primarily through Sam Spurway (24) and Keelan Ashby (20), and at 60-3 they had the potential to set a challenging total.

But both set batsman fell in quick succession and Trego then ran through the tail to finish with 5-22 from 10 overs.

James Thompson’s unbeaten 11 helped Ilminster pass 100 but Weston were almost halfway to their target of 110 when their first wicket fell, Scott Harris clean bowled by Thompson (1-29).

Trego then entered the fray and, though Jack Press (36) fell to Jon Hurford (1-15) shortly before the chase was complete, Trego finished unbeaten on 27 as Weston wrapped up victory in the 27th over.

Ilminster host Taunton on Saturday (12.30pm).

WEPL Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset
Winterbourne 179-1 beat North Perrott 178-9 by 9 wkts

GLOUCESTERSHIRE captain Chris Dent scored a century to consign North Perrott to a heavy defeat on Saturday.

Having been put in upon losing the toss, Perrott openers Gordon Whorlow and George Retter made a watchful start against the new ball.

Both eventually fell to Aaron Blake, who claimed 2-11 from 10 overs, either side of the departures of Jamie Baird (2) and Alex Eckland (1) to leave the hosts on 43-4.

Jack Henderson and captain Jake Symes put on a useful 76 runs for the fifth wicket before Symes became the first of three wickets for Benjamin Parker.

Henderson progressed to 60, at which point he was trapped in front by Dent, and the lower order eked out runs to take Perrott to 178-9 from their allotted 50 overs.

Dent then showed his experience in reply, adding 165 for the opening wicket with the more patient Ben Slade to put the result beyond any doubt.

Henderson (1-28 off eight) completed a good individual display by dismissing Dent for 106 but Slade (61*) and Dent’s county teammate James Bracey saw the visitors over the line in the 33rd over.

On Saturday, North Perrott travel to winless Shapwick & Polden.
