SOMERSET have drawn their Abu Dhabi pre-season tour to a close, with some impressive performances in the three-day match with Warwickshire this week.

Here's a round-up of how things have gone out in the Middle East, ahead of the return of county cricket in just two weeks' time.

Somerset v Worcestershire (March 12)

The opening match of pre-season brought a 132-run win over Worcestershire.

Somerset were put in to bat in the 50-over contest, with solid scores coming from Tom Banton and James Hildreth (both 32), while George Bartlett made 75 from 72 balls.

Eddie Byrom added 42 and Roelof van der Merwe 31, before Tim Groenewald's rapid 34 from just 15 balls led Somerset to 305-8.

Jack Brooks made an impressive debut for his new county, taking 3-22, while Josh Davey claimed 3-32 as Worcestershire were all out for 173.

Somerset v Essex Eagles (March 14)

Captain Tom Abell was the main man for Somerset as they beat Essex Eagles in this 50-over match.

Essex began well, Varun Chopra and Alastair Cook putting on 62, but Abell, Dom Bess, Lewis Gregory, Paul van Meekeren reduced them to 196-7.

Rishi Patel made 77 late on as Essex were all out for 243.

Somerset's reply was on unsteady ground at 105-5, but then Abell and Bess shared a century partnership.

Bess fell for 40 but Abell stuck around the hit the winning runs, taking him to 109no from 120 balls, as Somerset got home with three wickets to spare.

Somerset v Warwickshire (March 15)

A rain-affected 50-over defeat to Warwickshire ended Somerset's 100 per cent record in pre-season.

The start was delayed due to the weather, but Steve Davies made a positive start for Somerset, with 48 (including seven 4s).

Tom Abell made 65 from 70 balls, and Eddie Byrom added a half-century as Somerset were all out for 274.

Jack Brooks and Tim Groenewald combined to leave Warwickshire on 26-2, but the rain intervened and their target was adjusted to 247.

Dominic Sibley found his rhythm to make a century, Abell eventually removing him for 128, and Will Rhodes (47no) and Liam Banks (28no) secured a six-wicket win for their side.

Somerset v Combined XI (March 19)

A much-changed Somerset side suffered defeat in this 50-over friendly.

Somerset toiled to 164-7, but late knocks from Tim Rouse (60), George Bartlett (47) and Peter Trego (35) dragged them up to 293-9.

Despite wickets for Dom Bess, Josh Davey and Ben Green, a massive 184no from Essex player Paul Walter saw the Combined XI win by seven wickets.

Somerset v Warwickshire (March 19-21)

This three-day match consisted of 90 overs per day, with Warwickshire set to bat for the first 70 on day one.

But they were all out for 161, with 10 overs remaining, as Josh Davey and Jack Leach took three wickets apiece, and Craig Overton claimed another two.

Somerset reached 94-3 in their reply (James Hildreth 34), but a seventh-wicket partnership of 62 between Overton and half-centurion Steve Davies took them past 200.

Josh Davey then claimed another three Warwickshire wickets as they tumbled to 99-5, before eventually being all out for 155.

In reply, James Hildreth made 46, and Marcus Trescothick – batting on foreign soil for the first time since 2006 – retired on 62no.

Lewis Gregory then blasted his way to 75no as Somerset finished on 240-4.
