SOUTH Petherton footballer Jordan Storey helped Preston North End extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches on Saturday, with a 1-0 victory over Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Centre-back Storey, 21, helped his team keep a clean sheet, with Daniel Johnson’s strike proving decisive.

It leaves Preston just four points outside of the Championship play-off places, ahead of a tough assignment away to fifth-placed Middlesbrough tonight (ko 7.45pm) and a home match with Birmingham City this coming Saturday (3pm).

WINSHAM Utd dropped a vital point in their quest for the Premier title after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to West & Middle Chinnock on Saturday.

Matt Burt scored for Chinnock but Dan Norman equalised despite visiting keeper Reece Lawrence being man of the match.

A Matt Rousell brace led the way for leaders South Petherton as they beat Shepton Beauchamp 5-1.

Other goals came from Jack White, Dan Rudge and Charlie Burrington.

Late goals from Sam Spurway and Freddie Harper salvaged a point for Barrington at home to Chard United, who were two goals up going into the last three minutes.

Bradley Davies and Scott Miller thought they were home and dry.

In Division 1, second-placed Perry Street Res battled to a 3-2 home win against Misterton Res.

Joe Allen, Chris Fry and Daniel O’Connor scored their all-important goals.

Leaders Thorncombe raced away to a 9-0 win at Netherbury, while Hawkchurch coasted to a 5-0 win at home to Combe St Nicholas Res.

Two from James Melville and one apiece from Luke Harding, Mark Smale and Chris Watson did the job.

Uplyme pulled a point away from relegation with a 2-2 draw at home to Crewkerne Rangers.

Dowlish & Donyatt kept their fine form going at home to Chard Rangers, winning 4-1 thanks to goals from Nathan Doey (2), Matt Baker and, off the bench again, Craig Rice.

Second-placed Forton Rangers Res hit six without reply at Chard Utd Res.

In Division 3, Ilminster Town B kept their title charge going with a 4-3 win at Chard Rangers Res.

In the semi-finals of the John Fowler Cup, Lyme Regis Rovers gave Division 3 leaders Winsham Res a 5-0 beating, Finlay McLean, Peter Peacock, Callum Taylor, Darius Pickering and an OG doing the damage.

Combe St Nicholas A produced a fine performance at Thorncombe Res, winning 5-2, despite goals from Stuart Guest and Jamie Lillington.

In the Arthur Gage quarter-final, Waytown Hounds were awarded the match against Forton, who were unable to raise a side.

Match of the day in the Premier Division this coming Saturday will be leaders South Petherton’s trip to third-placed Farway on Saturday.

A victory for Pethy would open up a big gap at the top.

Division 1 leaders Thorncombe face a tough test when they visit Ilminster Res.

South Petherton Reserves, meanwhile, are in Somerset FA Intermediate Cup semi-final action, away to FC Castlemoat in Taunton (ko 2pm).
