SOMERSET County Cricket Club has announced the appointments of two consultant bowling coaches.

Heath Streak and Stuart Barnes have come on board to assist Somerset during the pre-season programme and Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, respectively.

Streak played in 65 Tests and 189 ODIs for Zimbabwe, and will work with the squad during their pre-season programme in Abu Dhabi – Somerset playing five matches between March 12 and March 19.

Barnes – who has coached Bangladesh, Surrey and England Young Lions – is to work with Somerset's bowlers in the One-Day Cup campaign, as they look to improve on last season's exit in the group stage.

Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry commented: “Heath has a vast amount of playing and coaching experience at both international and domestic levels, including with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

“Stuart will be working with our bowlers throughout the duration of the One-Day Cup and will also be supporting the development of our bowlers in the 2nd XI team within this timeframe.

“Both coaches are extremely well respected within the game and have a rich mixture of experience, both internationally and domestically.

"Their appointment provides our experienced and developing bowlers with a fantastic opportunity to tap into their extensive knowledge.”

Regarding his appointment, Streak said: “I’m excited to work with such an exciting group of bowlers during the pre-season campaign.

"Somerset has a rich history and I hope to impart some of what I've learnt as both a player and coach.”

Barnes said: “Having been born in Bath, I’m very excited to be able to work with the county I supported while growing up.

"I have the opportunity to work with a group of extremely talented and skilful bowlers and it’s my role to help them and the team achieve success.

"I cannot wait to get started.”
