Taunton Vale D 1, Chard B 0

Chard B 4, Sidmouth & Ottery B 2

CHARD B had two fixtures at the weekend with a core of players from a wide spectrum of ages.

On Saturday, Chard travelled for the derby in Taunton with the home side playing well and Chard losing Richard Jones through injury.

Taunton scored the only goal of the game from a penalty corner.

In the second half, Chard were a lot more potent going forward and had a goal disallowed from a penalty corner.

Sunday saw Sidmouth and Ottery B visit the Holyrood pitch and Chard fell behind from a penalty corner against the run of play.

Chard soon retaliated after Ian Waite’s shot was saved and Barnaby Willis knocked in the rebound.

It was the pacey Willis who added the second and Andy Swain scored off a post just before half-time.

After the break, the visitors’ mid-field duo were always a threat, however a pass to Ryan Lewis on the break had him seal the victory.

Grahame Johnson pulled off some good saves to keep Chard in the ascendancy although the visitors did pull one back.

Special mention goes to Ollie Saxby who worked tirelessly in the first fixture and welcome to George Johnson-Jones who played his first men’s fixture.

This Saturday, eighth-placed Chard A host Teign A, in fifth.

Chard: Johnson, Millett (A), Millett (R), Dare, Mooney, Jones, Saxby, Evans (A), Lewis (D), Lukins, Willis (A), Cheffey, Waite, Swain, Lewis (R), Willis (B), Evans (H), Johnson-Jones.

CHARD men’s first team lost 6-2 at Minehead in Central 2 on Saturday.

They sit second bottom in the table and host North Wilts, who are two places above them, this weekend.

Chard A, like the B team, had a double header last weekend.

They suffered narrow defeats in both, going down 1-0 against Tiverton on Saturday before being beaten 3-2 at home by Isca D the following day.

Chard remain cut adrift at the bottom and will be playing for pride in their remaining fixtures - they travel to second-placed Taunton Civil Service on Saturday.

Chard Ladies return to action on Saturday against White Eagles 2nds.
