HOLYROOD’S year seven, eight and nine girls hockey teams found themselves travelling to Millfield last week for the county finals.
The year sevens had a perfect start in their group, beating Bishop Fox’s 1-0, The Blue School 3-0 and Chilton Trinity 8-0, Matilda Clayton scoring a hat-trick.
They then faced Sexey’s in the final. Holyrood went 1-0 down but Millie Stoneman equalised in the second half and the girls were soon 3-1 up.
Brilliant defending from Laura Miller, Holly Griffiths and Charlotte Lamb stopped Sexey’s from hitting back before Phoebe Grinter set up Grace Farmer at the back post to make it 4-1 and seal the title.
The year nines, defending their title from the previous year, began with two goalless draws.
The result of Holyrood’s last game against King Alfred was the decider.
Everything seemed to click and Amy Bristow and Crocus Douglass scored in quick succession.
Captain Heidi Warren and winger Lily Farmer worked brilliantly together to set up two more goals to make the scoreline 4-0 to take the county crown.
The year eights played well but couldn’t get on to the podium and finished fourth in their age group.
Sophie Finch was named player of the day.
