AFTER the washout of last week, the Cricket St Thomas senior section reconvened on Monday and combined with the ladies section to play their annual Christmas Cracker competition.

In the unusually fine weather, 63 members formed 21 teams, consisting of one lady and one senior, to play a Bowmaker tournament.

The winning team, led by Rosa Atkinson, recorded a total score of 68 points, which proved to be one better than their nearest rivals, led by Rita Denman.

After the event, both captains thanked the members for their support, and ladies captain Donna Adey was applauded for her work in the organisation of the event.

Seniors captain Peter Spencer-Farr said that £263 had been raised on the raffle and would be shared by the respective charities – Guide Dogs for the blind, and Newlife for disabled children.

After Wednesday’s events were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, 39 seniors enjoyed the fair skies on Friday and played a three-man reverse Bowmaker competition.

The receptive greens assisted the players and some good scores were produced.

George Wallace continued his fine form and led his team to victory with 78 points.

Nick Gabb’s trio finished in second place, two points behind.
