Taunton Civil Service A 2, Chard B 6

CHARD recorded their second consecutive away victory with a convincing win at Taunton Civil Service A.

Chard started briskly and kept the intensity of pace up throughout the game which gave high flyers Taunton C.S. a lot of difficulties.

Chard ended the first half two up from well executed short corners by Steve Dare, whose drag flicks were unstoppable.

Alec Evans, on the right wing, stretched the home defence, and Civil’s only outlet was quick breakaways which were ably defended by the Chard back line.

The first half of the second half was much the same with the midfield dynamos of Ryan Lewis, Ollie Saxby and Richard Jones keeping Chard on pressing.

Andy Swain broke the Taunton defence to score, however the home side quickly responded with a goal.

Dare achieved a hat-trick with another penalty corner, his subsequent green card pulled Chards structure and for the remainder of the game Chard were more on the back foot but managed to score another goal either side of Taunton’s - the first from Jones and the second from Alan Cheffey.

Despite the extra pressure exerted by Chard, the defence managed to repel the advances with special mention to Rilley Millet, who defended well.

The result puts Chard back in the mix of mid-table and another positive result before the Christmas break may put them in a good position to hold their own in the second half of the season.

Chard: Carvelle, Dare, Mooney, Millett, Swann, Lewis (R), Jones, Saxby, Millett (A), Evans, Cheffey, Lewis (D), Swain.

CHARD’S first team also had a good away result, winning 4-1 at Team Bath E in Central 2.

The A team were beaten 6-2 at home by Sidmouth & Ottery A in South East 1.

This weekend, the firsts host Bristol University B, the A team travel to West Dorset and the B side host Sidmouth & Ottery C.

Chard’s ladies had a tough afternoon on home soil, losing 8-1 at home to Minehead in Sedgemoor 1, and this week travel to Culm Valley to take on ECVH.
