JACK Leach got useful overs under his belt on the second day of England's warm-up match against a Sri Lanka President's Board XI in Colombo.

The Somerset spinner had to be patient after yesterday's first day was washed out, but he returned tidy figures of 1-29 from 13 overs, including three maidens, as both sides batted for 50 overs on the second and final day.

It was much-needed match action for Leach, who was surprisingly not included in the 14-man side for England's opening warm-up match earlier in the week and yesterday admitted to "itchy feet."

The tourists are believed to be seriously considering using three spinners in the first Test in Galle, and Leach's spell today will have done his prospects no harm at all - particularly as Joe Denly, an option to bat at the top of the order and provide part-time leg-spin, was milked for 43 runs in his five overs.

The first Test begins on Tuesday, November 6.
