Wellington AFC 1, Bradford Town 3

WELLINGTON were unable to build on an early goal on Saturday, as visitors Bradford Town avenged a 2-0 loss earlier in the season.

Joe Chamberlain's corner found the net with the aid of a heavy deflection after just five minutes, but the Tangerines were pegged back in the 20th minute, when Will Hailston equalised from a low cross.

It remained 1-1 at half time, but the hosts were down to 10 men five minutes before the break as Tom Hawkings saw red.

With a man advantage, and the wind and slope in their favour, Bradford were now favourites - and they took the lead on the hour, Dan Price heading in from a corner.

Substitute Jason Henley then wrapped it up with seven minutes to go, curling a shot past Wellington goalkeeper Josh McLean - whose efforts prevented a bigger defeat for the hosts.

The result sees Wellington slip one place to ninth in the Premier Division table; this coming Saturday they are at home to second-placed Willand Rovers (ko 3pm).

Keynsham Town 3, Bishops Lydeard 2

BISHOPS Lydeard let a 2-0 lead slip as they conceded three in the final 15 minutes away to Keynsham Town on Saturday.

There were no goals for the first hour of a closely-fought encounter, but then Lydeard took the lead when a mishit clearance from the hosts found Zac Ryder, who found Harry Miller to slot home.

And it was 2-0 on 70 minutes, thanks to a super team goal - keeper Nathan Whatley finding Mark Cornish, the ball moved on to Luke Desave, who set up Ryan Brereton to score at the far post.

But within five minutes Keynsham substitute Daniel Spill had pulled one back, and after Miller missed a fine chance to restore the two-goal lead, Spill's fellow sub Matthew Long equalised.

That left 10 minutes left to play, but the momentum was with the hosts now, and Michael Grist claimed the winning goal in the 85th minute.

Lydeard, who sit 14th in the First Division, welcome 15th-placed Warminster Town to Cothelstone Road this Saturday (ko 3pm).

MINEHEAD AFC, Staplegrove and Watchet Town all progressed in the Somerset County League's Premier & Division 1 Cup on Saturday.

Division 1 side Staplegrove travelled to Clutton of the Premier Division, and were 2-0 down inside 30 minutes - Richard Krug and Alex Price netting for the hosts.

But two thunderous finishes from Jack Lewis squared things up, and Grove were clinical in the penalty shootout, winning it 5-4.

Darren Rice, James Rowley, Luke Oliver, Alex Pounde and Joe Wilkinson all scored their spot-kicks, and Shaun Locke's save made the difference.

Grove host Somerton Town in the next round.

Minehead were 2-1 winners at home to Uphill Castle, as Guy Burns' well-judged shot gave them a 1-0 lead at the break.

Stefan Phillips missed a penalty after Burns was brought down, his kick striking the post, but he held his nerve to score when a second penalty was awarded for handball.

William Sneddon-Coombes pulled one back with a 20-yard free-kick, but Minehead held on to set up a home tie with Timsbury Athletic.

John Harris scored both goals as Watchet Town saw off Stockwood Green 2-1.

They are at home at Winscombe in the next round, with all second round ties to be played on November 10.

This coming Saturday, Watchet go to Wrington Redhill, Minehead are away to Wells City Reserves, and Staplegrove entertain Nailsea & Tickenham Reserves (ko 3pm).
