CHARD Cricket Club’s Ladies and Girls rounded off another excellent season with the Ladies claiming victory in the Shrubsole Cup last week.
The second playing of the annual challenge match saw the Ladies exact revenge for last year’s defeat, seeing off their younger counterparts with a strong batting display.
Scoring steadily throughout their innings, the Ladies posted a daunting 302 off their 18 overs. Impressive running between the wickets from the outset got the Ladies off to a flyer, as the Girls struggled to take wickets.
Captains Julie Churchill and Rachel Derham accelerated the score and only tight bowling from Amy Driscoll and Lola Saxby kept the score within reach.
In reply, the Girls attacked from the start, but a double wicket maiden from Charlotte Allen stalled the chase, and despite some later order hitting from Crocus Douglass the girls were undone by the incredible fielding of Rachel Ireland-Jones, falling short on 264.
