ILMINSTER 2s confirmed their promotion slot from Division 3 with a six-wicket win at home to Wembdon 2s on Saturday.

Batting first, Wembdon were in immediate trouble as Ian Masters took two quick wickets.

Only Paul McKinley (28) stood firm as Ilminster’s bowlers strangled the innings, reducing Wembdon to 102-8 off 45.

In reply, Ilminster lost quick wickets by Masters stopped the rot with a steadying 42no and skipper Josh House (22) ensured the victory in the 25th over.

Chard 2’s slide to relegation continued as they lost at home to Kilve by 163 runs.

The visitors blasted 277-9 with five batsmen making 30 and over and extras amounting to 47. Ricky Stoodley and Fraser Lewis took three wickets apiece.

Chard’s reply crumbled immediately as Ryan Penwell and Martin James took control for Kilve.

As a result, they were all out for 114 with a late 33 from Andrew Sochon and 20 from No 11 Stoodley.

Broadway & Horton were 45 runs too good for North Newton after James Payne (47) and Paul Anderson (42) helped them to 189.

When Newton replied, Ian Hosken took 3-31 off 9 as they were all out for 144.

In Division 4, Barrington enjoyed a fine win at home to Ilton, posting 232-7 and bowling the visitors out for 155.

Kevin Smith (64) top scored in a fine batting display, then Smith took 3-16 off 7 to finish the job.

Crewkerne fell 22 short of Uphill Castle 2s’ 213-8, despite a fine 96 from Andrew Callow.

Richard Keylock added 39 but they were always behind the clock.

The derby between North Perrott 2s and South Petherton ended in the former winning by 37 runs.

Perrott posted 225 all out with George Johnson top-scoring with 84 and Sam Rowswell hitting 44.

Kevin Harris was the pick of the Pethy bowlers with 5-25. In reply, Pethy skipper Adam Young hit 70 and Harry Reed 30 but Johnson kept them in check with 3-35.

Broadway & Horton 2s lost to second placed Taunton St Andrew’s B by 130 in Division 7S. Freddie Wolfenden hit 91 for Saints as they scored 232-7 and it was too much for Broadway, for whom Tom Wilson stood out with 42.

In Division 8S, Ilton lost by 10 wickets in a rain-reduced match at home to Sparkford. Ilton scrambled to 87-7 with Hannah Robins hitting 23no but had no success as Jake Elsworth saw Sparkford home with ease.

In Division 8S of the Somerset League, leaders South Petherton picked up a three-wicket win at home to Castle Cary 2s.

Put in to bat, Cary were all out for 125 as Gary Salter took 3-32 with Kevin White taking 2-8 off 7.

In reply, Pethy struggled against Simon Maber (3-119) but the stand between Sam Holder (29) and Charles Head (34no) just made the difference.

Chard 3s failed to raise a side for their home derby clash with Ilminster 3s, while a localised storm rendered the North Perrott 3s’ pitch unplayable in the fixture against Wincanton.
