ILMINSTER have leapfrogged Lansdown at the top of the WEPL Premier 2 Bristol/Somerset standings, after their opponents on Saturday were docked points for their controversial declaration.

League leaders Lansdown had declared on 51-9, in order to deny their hosts full bowling points - Ilminster claiming four as opposed to seven.

The home side went on to win by seven wickets, but the actions of their promotion rivals still "left a sour taste".

The West of England Premier League decided to intervene, following what Ilminster Cricket Club member Craig Rice called "game-wide condemnation" of their actions.

Rice told the Chard & Ilminster News that an emergency meeting of the WEPL management committee was held last (Wednesday) night, and the result was that Ilminster were awarded full bowling points for the match, Lansdown were docked five points, and the Lansdown captain (Jordan Price) has been banned for one game.

Rice added that Ilminster had not been not chasing a points deduction for their opponents, but were keen to flag up the incident in the interests of the spirit of cricket.

Ilminster are now four points clear at the top of the table, but Lansdown are still favourites to win the division, as they have a game in hand.

Ilminster are without a match this weekend (due to Glastonbury's withdrawal from the league), then host Taunton on Saturday, September 1.

Lansdown host Midsomer Norton this Saturday, and go to Taunton Deane the following weekend.
