A BUSY week for Cricket St Thomas Seniors started on Monday when the EGGS section played their annual Turtle Trophy in the form of a three-man Texas Scramble.
In a close finish, the trophy was won by the team led by Tony Church with a one-shot advantage over Mike Banfield’s trio.
Result: winner - Tony Church, Edmundo Paolini & Bert Robinson 50.30; runner-up - Mike Banfield; Alan Chance & Alan Davis 51.30.
The Saints match team travelled to Dorset to play the Seniors of the Dorset Golf & Country Club.
In intense heat, the fast greens troubled the Saints players, but they put up a great performance and managed to win one game and half three others, only to lose by 2½-3½.
Results: Barrie Heath & Ian Griffiths halved; George Wallace & Mark Cording won by 2 holes; Chris Gingell & Keith Potter halved; Roger Stone & John McOmish lost by 5&3; Dave Muggridge & Andy Beale lost by 5&3; John Wandless & Roger Davis halved.
On Wednesday, 33 members of the senior section played a three-man combined stableford competition.
Bert Robinson was the best of a good bunch, amassing 43 points.
This, however, was not sufficient for a place in the top three.
A tie ensued for first place with Martin Putland’s team scoring the same as Keith Potter’s trio, with Ian Housham’s side in third place.
Result: 1 Martin Putland; R.Dines & Brian Marsh 101 pts; 2 Keith Potter; Mark Colman & Bob Rees 101; 3 Ian Housham; Keith Branchflower & Bill Hilson 97.
