CHARD play their fourth pre-season friendly at Dorset Premier League Gillingham Town this Thursday (ko 7pm).

This is followed by a home match against newly-promoted Somerset County League Premier Division side Somerton at Zembard Lane next Tuesday (July 24, ko 7.30pm).

Chard played two pre-season friendlies in the past week, losing 4-3 to Wellington and 2-0 to Axminster.

Late goals from substitutes Ricky Pitter and Charlie Skilton gave Axminster the victory over Chard at Tiger Way on Friday night.

It was a touch harsh on Jamie Manley’s new-look squad who played some fast, one-touch football in the first half and only faded late in the game.

Tom Salter shot wide after good work from James Boyland, while Callum Williams’ effort was saved.

Boyland was also denied by the keeper, but ultimately it was the hosts who finished stronger, with the two goals denying Chard a worthy draw.

Chard Reserves, meanwhile, begin their pre-season build-up at home to Bridport Reserves on Friday (July 20), ko 7.30pm.

CHARD Town are still looking for talented footballers between the age of 15-18 to join their team in this upcoming season’s Somerset Floodlight Under 18 Youth League.

Returning to the league after a two-year break, the side will be overseen by Garry Perren, a veteran of schoolboy/youth football.

Last season he was in charge of Taunton Tigers, and while that team will form the nucleus of his new side, Perren has already picked up another half dozen new players.

Anyone who is interested in joining the team should contact Perren via 07505231814 or garry@cagedtigers.co.uk.
