PERRY Street Under-13s have achieved a historic double this season.

The team have won Division 1 of the Yeovil & District Youth League as well as the Division 1 Cup, in the Under-13 age group.

It’s the first time a Perry Street youth team have ever won the top division since the Yeovil & District League began in 1903.

Jamie Dickenson dedicates his spare time to running and coaching the team, together with his assistant Nick ‘Dicko’ Govier.

Dickenson said: “This has been a brilliant season and I’m so proud of the boys.

“The main core of the team has played together at Perry Street since they were six years old, and this is the third consecutive season that we’ve won the cup.

“Last season we won the league and cup in Division 2, so to win both again, but in Division 1 at the first time of asking, is a great achievement.

“For me it’s been a fantastic journey taking the team from such a young age to winning the top division.”

Govier said: “In the league we scored a fantastic 77 goals and only conceded 11 – that just shows you the quality of young players we have in this team and we are already looking forward to next season.”

He added: “Perry Street is a thriving youth football club and this season has been very special for the Under-13 team – the success we’ve had just shows what can be achieved with hard work and commitment.

“We are already turning our thoughts to the next season and our summer coaching programme.

“We are really grateful to everyone who supports the team, and in particular to our shirt sponsor, J.B. Wheaton & Sons.”
