Ilminster Town 1, Bridgwater Town Reserves 0

TAYLOR Jefferson was the hero for Ilminster Town on Tuesday night, as the Blues' top scorer's goal was enough to keep the Blues in the Premier Division for next season.

The hosts needed to win to secure survival, whereas a draw would be good enough for visitors Bridgwater Town Reserves.

In front of a large crowd, two evenly-matched sides fought out a tense encounter.

Ilminster's Carl Lazenby had a good chance to open the scoring, but his header was saved, and the sides were locked at 0-0 at half time.

The decisive goal came in the second half, with the Blues being awarded a penalty and Jefferson stepping up to take the pressure spot-kick.

He converted it, giving him his 16th goal of the season and the Blues a 1-0 victory.

The result means Ilminster finish 13th (fifth from bottom) in their first Premier Division season, while it pushes Bridgwater into the dropzone.
