THIS weekend Chard Road Runners were in action in the 1610 Bridgwater Bolt and the WSR Bad Cow Frolic.

Helen Baxter headed off early across the border into Dorset for the Bad Cow Frolic.

Runners have up to 12 hours to complete as many miles as they can on a lapped course.

Baxter, hoping to improve on last year’s race, set off on this trail course with good pace, and she pushed past the 26.2-mile marker for a marathon.

She kept her focus to beat not only her previous distance but also time, running 43 miles in 10h 16m (third lady).

Adrian Male celebrated his birthday by running the 10k Bridgwater Bolt road race.

Male set off at a good pace and with the goal of running the 10k in under 45 minutes.

At the halfway stage Male was just outside his goal, but he dug deep and with a final sprint to the line he crossed with a PB of 44m 44s (56/644).

ON Saturday, five Chard Crew Running Club members took part in Chardstock Challenge Revival 10k as part of Chardstock Street Fayre.

The 10k course was over some very steep hills that could challenge the most experienced runners.

All five members completed the race, as follows:
Margaret Beer - 1:13:45; Lucy Hodson - 1:22:46; Jackie Beer - 1:32:46; Cressida Beasley-Suffolk - 1:35:11; Bex Barnes - 1:42:48

The final 3.7 miles were dedicated to Matt Campbell, who died while running the London Marathon.

Any donations are to be given to Campbell’s charity The Brathay Trust.

The Chardstock Challenge Revival enjoyed fine conditions, with the 10k race attracting 41 runners and the 3k Fun Run a field of 34.

The 10k run was won by Josh Hopson (44:52), ahead of Rob Hutchings (45:03) and Amy Greenhaigh (47:34).

More than £400 was raised for the Street Fayre’s charities.
