MORE than 45 students from Holyrood Academy travelled to Millfield School to compete in the Spring Games, including the Under-13 and Under-15 girls and boys handball teams, as well as four table tennis players.

All four handball teams competed in a round-robin competition against five opposing schools throughout the day.

The players performed brilliantly, with some superb skills being displayed against the likes of Crispin and Kingsmead Schools.

The Under-15 girls finished in fourth place and the Under-15 boys in sixth, while the Under-13 boys were named third in the county.

The Under-13 girls were deservedly crowned county champions after defeating Crispin 3-1 in their final game of the day, and they now go on to represent the county at the Regional Finals in May.

SQUADS: Holyrood Academy's Under-15 boys and girls.

Miss Sims, sports coach at Holyrood Academy, said: "Handball is a relatively new sport for the Academy so we thought we'd enter this competition to give the students some friendly game.

"Credit to them, as they all massively exceeded our expectations.

"The Under-13 girls were incredible.

"Heidi Warren was the standout performer after scoring over 90 per cent of the team’s goals but the whole team was fantastic; they listened and improved game after game.

"Their spectacular defence in the final game saw them stop the experienced handballers, Crispin, from winning the final game.

"Alfred Busby and Harry Clifford also performed outstandingly in the table tennis competition to be named third in the county - what a brilliant achievement."

Lorna Warren was named Player of the Day for the Under-15 girls; Lewis Hole, Player of the Day for the Under-15 boys; Charlie McManus, Player of the Day for the Under-13 boys; and Heidi Warren, Player of the Day for the Under-13 girls.
