South West Women’s League
Premier Division
Ilminster Town Ladies 0, Middlezoy Rovers Ladies 3

ILMINSTER hosted Middlezoy on Sunday for a fixture with plenty of history and rivalry!

The Blues began well, creating some half chances early on, but the game was free-flowing and very end-to-end.

After 38 minutes of no clear-cut chances, the visitors broke the deadlock when a ball that caught out the Ilminster defence found Anusia Rourke, who slid the ball home.

The last five minutes of the half saw the Blues create many a chance, perhaps the best falling to Colette Martin, who received the ball in space following a great piece of play by young Erin Bloomfield, but Martin’s shot hit the post and was cleared.

The second half began and soon Middlezoy were 2-0 up, as Rosie Williams calmly placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner from 12 yards out.

Ten minutes later it was game over, as the pacy Cheryl Baber created some space to work a shooting angle and found the bottom left-hand corner.

Ilminster created a handful of half-chances in the second half, but all in all it was a disappointing day.

Yet, with only two league games left of a long campaign, their first at this level of football, they have done themselves proud.

Next up, Ilminster host Torquay United on May 13 (ko 2pm).

Ilminster Town Ladies: Charlotte Johnson, Dana Andrews, Daisy Charles, Shannon Crouch, Hannah Billing, Sarah Miller, Maisie Parker, Colette Martin, Megan Purchase, Amy Burge, Erin Bloomfield. Subs: Charlie Pettinger, Amy Goss.

UNFORTUNATELY for the Blues, there was a mirror image of the result when Ilminster Town and Middlezoy Rovers' men's sides met last night (Tuesday).

Dan Luce, Jed Williams and Alex Male scored in Middlezoy's 3-0 away win, which leaves Ilminster perched just outside the Somerset County League Premier Division relegation zone.

They host Nailsea United on Saturday (ko 2pm).
