Somerset County League
Division 1 West
Minehead AFC 2, Combe St Nicholas 1

AFTER a two-week lay off, Combe went to fifth-place Minehead on Saturday.

With Nathan Fisher unavailable, Combe had to call on manager Neil Holt to get the gloves back on.

Combe started brightly and had several good chances before Minehead went 1-0 up with a strike from Luke Bloys that went through a crowd of players.

But the visitors kept their heads up and levelled through Adam Smith, who took advantage of a Minehead mistake and lobbed the keeper from 35 yards.

Combe had several chances in the second half but it was the hosts who got the winner, as Guy Burns scored a free-kick that left Holt with no chance.

Man of the match went to the impressive Craig Every.

Combe Ladies were awarded a home walkover against Evercreech Ladies in Somerset County Women’s Division 2.

ALL Ilminster Town matches again fell victim to the heavy rain.

It is very frustrating for all involved, especially as the pitches were playable on Friday, only for Saturday’s early morning downpour to spoil things.

The Blues hope to face Stockwood Green at the Archie Gooch Pavillion on Saturday (ko 2.30pm).

Stockwood, who sit one place above the Blues in the Somerset County Premier Division table, have drawn 12 matches from 17 played, while Ilminster have nine draws from 16 games.

Ilminster Ladies go to Marine Academy Plymouth on Sunday (ko 2pm).
