Ilminster-Holway Utd 2, Bishops Lydeard 0

THIS was the first year that Somerset FA had put on this competition, the final being played at Ilchester Youth FC.

Bishops Lydeard fielded a side with more girls in the U-16 age group compared to Ilminster-Holway Utd, whose majority of players were only U-15s. Bishops Lydeard started the stronger side, but the Ilminster-Holway's defence quickly closed down the opposition's runs. Ilminster soaked up the pressure, then on 12 minutes, Sarah Miller put a great ball through to Jenny Frost who opened the scoring. Ilminster-Holway Utd had a few more chances in the first half, but it remained 1-0 going into half-time.

Bishops Lydeard again started the stronger in the second half, with one attack needing Ilminster's keeper Faye Edwards to make a great save.

However, Ilminster-Holway's midfield got back control of the game. Ten minutes from time, Aimee Rowe shot from outside the box and saw the ball go through the keepers legs, giving Ilminster-Holway a two-goal lead. Both teams were tiring towards the end, playing on a bigger pitch than they were used to, but it had been a great game of football.

Congratulations to Ilminster-Holway Utd - girls, you were all fantastic!
