A NEW early years learning centre has opened in the grounds of a primary school near Chard.

St Mary’s Primary School in Thorncombe launched the new Little Pips early years foundation stage unit last Friday.

The school also held a successful sports day last week, with Rowling House finishing in first, Dahl in second place and Walliams finishing in third.

Little Pips has three dedicated areas, the Little Pips room, the reception classroom and a fully enclosed covered outdoor play and garden area, and it will be open to children aged two to four.

Vikki O’Hare, administration officer at St Mary’s, said: “Children aged from two years to four years are welcomed to the unit, to engage in fun and exciting learning through play.

“Little Pips is open from 8.30am until 3pm, with morning, afternoon or all day sessions available.

“The school also has a breakfast club which runs from 8am to 8.30am and after school club which runs from 3pm to 5pm to offer that extra bit of childcare should you wish.

“Three and four year olds can use their 15 hours of free early education funding and we also accept the 30 hours funding. If your child is two years of age you can pay privately or use funding if you qualify.”
