ONE of crickets greatest characters, Henry Blofeld, is coming to Ilminster for an evening of discussion.

Best known as a cricket journalist and commentator, 'Blowers' retired from his famous stint on Test Match Special last year.

Now, thanks to the Ilminster Cricket Club, Mr Blofeld is bringing his evening of entertainment to the town.

A spokesman for the club said: "Ilminster Cricket Club have arranged an evening with Henry ‘My Dear Old Thing’ Blofeld, who hung up his microphone last year after 50 years commentating on international cricket.

"The cherished golden voice of cricket will be celebrating with a performance jam-packed full of unheard anecdotes from on and off the pitch, as well as stories from the Test Match Special box not allowed on the radio.

"Don’t miss the chance to wave a bat in honour to the last bastion of the original Test Match Special team."

78, Retired will be held at the Warehouse Theatre and is raising money for the Ilminster Cricket Club.

It will take place on May 2 from 7.30pm and tickets are available from £20.

Stuart Shepherd, town councillor and president of the cricket club, said: "He is a real character, and it is a good time to have him too, no doubt about it.

"It has been some years since we had someone of his stature come to Ilminster.

"We have virtually sold out of tickets. The Warehouse only seats 150 and we have sold more than 100 already."
