A COUPLE have been fined a combined £83,000 for Housing Act offences.
David and Joanna Fuller were prosecuted for failing to comply with improvement notices and other offences.
Their trial at Taunton Magistrates' Court heard that they were the owner and manager of properties they privately rented in Yeovil.
They were found guilty of:
- Failing to comply with two improvement notices served under The Housing Act 2004 on the properties;
- Failing to comply with an Emergency Prohibition Order under the Housing Act 2004;
- Running an unlicensed House in Multiple Occupation (HMO);
- Failing to comply with duties as a Manager of an HMO under the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006.
Mr Fuller, listed as the manager of the properties, was fined £41,709 with Mrs Fuller, listed as the owner of the properties, also fined £41,709 which has to be paid within 28 days of the hearing.
A spokesperson for South Somerset District Council said: "These were serious matters and we thank the court for its verdict which will help us to keep tenants safe in South Somerset."
