THE first day of Avon and Somerset Police's Christmas crackdown on drink and drug driving saw seven arrests.

Operation Tonic runs annually throughout December, with officers making spot checks across the force area.

The constabulary is calling on members of the public to report people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Before contacting the police, make sure you have as many of the following details as possible:

  • Person’s name and address;
  • Car model and registration;
  • What the person has drunk or what drugs you believe the person has taken.

You can anonymously report a suspected drink/drugs driver:

  • on the phone – call 101;
  • online – fill in the report a suspected drink or drugs driver form on the Avon and Somerset Police website.

If you believe someone is currently driving under the influence of drink or drugs, call 999 immediately.
