2:20pm UPDATE: Police have confirmed the slow-moving load has reached Crewkerne and thanked drivers for their patience.

A "MONSTER" 138-tonne load is travelling from Sedgemoor Services south to Crewkerne today, with police putting dynamic road closures in place "as necessary". 

Avon and Somerset Police posted on Facebook to make drivers aware of the slow-moving vehicle carrying CAT heavy machinery from WM Plant Hire. 

Police have warned of "potential delays" on the route the load will be following and said they are not able to estimate how long it will take for the load to reach its destination in Crewkerne. 

At 2:10pm, police confirmed the vehicle reached its destination in Crewkerne and thanked drivers for their patience during the operation. 

The police Facebook post said: "This monster 138-tonne load is travelling from Sedgemoor Services south on the M5 to junction 25 (Taunton) today, Friday 26 November.

"The 28m long, 4.5m wide load will then travel along the

  • A358 to Ilminster
  • A303 to Cartgate
  • A3088 to Yeovil
  • A30 to its destination at Crewkerne

"There will be dynamic road closures as necessary.

"The load will move slowly and we're unable to estimate how long it will take to travel the route."

On Twitter, police are sharing updates and images of the load's progress. 

The 138-tonne "abnormal load" reached the A358 at Henlade en route to Ilminster at around 10:30am.

At 1pm, Avon and Somerset Police tweeted: "This is now on the A30 heading from Yeovil to West Coker!"

Just over an hour later at 2:15pm, police confirmed the vehicle had arrived in Crewkerne.
