Constance Marten and her partner Mark Gordon disappeared back in January after she gave birth to a child, and how an urgent search is being conducted for the baby.

The pair were located by officers from Sussex Police in Stanmer Villas, Brighton last night (Monday, February 27) after a member of the public reported seeing them shortly before 9.30 pm.

The couple were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in custody, with the Metropolitan Police relaying that they are being questioned.

Police are asking local people to search for signs of the baby, including in sheds and outhouses.

Newsquest will be hosting a live podcast on the current situation which can be viewed from 12.15 pm at the YouTube link below.

Some people might understandably question how this situation came to happen and might ask who exactly Constance Marten is.

Who is Constance Marten?

As reported by The Independent Constance is directly descended from the 3rd and last Baron Allington and once lived in the £34 million Crichel country house in Dorset.

Her grandparents were Toby Marten, a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy, and his wife Mary Anna, who had close links to the royal family.

Meanwhile, her father, Napier Marten, is a film and music producer, who was famously a page to Queen Elizabeth II.

Constance is understood to have studied Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Leeds before completing an NCTJ journalism qualification.

However, she had a keen interest in acting and enrolled at East 15 drama school in Essex before dropping out in 2016.

This is the place where friends of hers said she met Mark Gordon.

Gordon, a registered sex offender, was deported to Britain from the United States in 2010 after spending 20 years in prison for a rape he committed aged 14.

Following meeting Gordon, Constance became estranged from her family.

BBC News reports that the couple left their home in Eltham, south-east London, in September, after Constance first showed signs of pregnancy, and were living a nomadic lifestyle since.

They had been travelling around the UK by taxi since their car was found burning on the M61 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on January 5.

The baby was likely born then and has not had any medical attention since then, investigators believe.

What is an aristocrat?

Constance is part of one of "England’s most prominent aristocratic households" according to the Evening Standard.

The definition of an aristocrat is to be a member of the aristocracy which is amongst the highest class of certain societies.

This is typically people of noble birth who hold hereditary titles and offices.

As the Marten family have several links to the royal family and the British army they fall into that category.
